Fostering Positive Interactions between Police Officers and Autistic Individuals Through a Routine Traffic Stop

Presented by SCSU Center of Excellence of Autism Spectrum Disorders

When: Saturday, November 15,

8 am -12 pm

Where: Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, CT

Who: Drivers and passengers with autism. Drivers must have a current license, car, registration, and insurance. Support persons are welcome to attend.

What: The lights and sounds of a traffic stop can feel overwhelming, especially for someone with autism. This friendly, low-stress event gives participants a chance to practice what happens during a traffic stop in a calm, predictable setting. It’s a safe way to meet officers, ask questions, and feel more comfortable and better prepared for future interactions with officers.
